I suppose that we do have to take back this person "Gary Glitter". We would certainly expect the Vietnamese to do the same.
Or would we?
If Glitter really didn't know that these girls were under 16, then he would have stood, alas, no realistic chance of prosecution or even arrest in Britain today, just so long as they were visibly post-pubescent. Parliament might decide that one thing is the law. But the Police, the CPS and the "Sex Education" lobby think differently, as if that were their place. And they are in charge on the ground.
Good on the Vietnamese for kicking out this creature, because good on them for acting against him at all. We could learn a lot from them. We should do so. Indeed, we must do so.

ReplyDeleteI honestly think that a lot of the attention to this case is not so much because of the principal protagonist's fame as because we are so shocked to discover that there are still countries where laws of this kind are enforced.
