Wholehearted Free Service

Blessed Teresa of Calcutta is to be canonised next September.

You can always tell the real faux-Left cultists by the fact that they believe the Dan Brown fantasies of Christopher Hitchens about her.

  1. Expect them all to crawl out of the woodwork over the next year.

    1. Guaranteed. But we are ready and waiting for them.

  2. It is true-and quite disgraceful-that the £100 million donated to her could have paid for Calcutta to have the best palliative care facilities in the world, but she spent only 5-7% of it catering for the poor.

Hitchens was also right to expose her disgraceful links to the Duvalier family.

Some of the skeletons in her closet just won't go away....

    1. The canonisation is going ahead. Of course.

There are things claiming to be the Institute of This of The Journal of That which claim that the Royal Family are giant lizards in disguise. This belongs in the same category.

Oh really? Check out what happened to the $100 million-yes, $100 million-donated to her.

Let's put it this way-it would have paid for Calcutta to have world-class free palliative care for the poor.

No, of course it wouldn't. And the Missionaries of Charity are worldwide. They are not peculiar to one city.

  4. David Lindsay appears not to know about Mother Teresa's support for 'Papa Doc' Duvalier.

Or what she did with all that charity money.

""Writing in journal Studies in Religion/Sciences, Serge Larivie and Genevieve Chenard, say her hallowed reputation does not stand up to scrutiny. Prof Larivie said: 'While looking for documentation on the phenomenon of altruism for a seminar on ethics, one of us stumbled upon the life and work of one of Catholic Church's most celebrated woman and now part of our collective imagination - Mother Teresa.
'The description was so ecstatic that it piqued our curiosity and pushed us to research further.'

"After studying nearly 300 documents on her life, they concluded that a number of issues surrounded the nun were not taken into account by the Vatican.

""These included 'her rather dubious way of caring for the sick, her questionable political contacts, her suspicious management of the enormous sums of money she received.""

Which is what, exactly? Periodicals in support of Lyndon LaRouche also have fancy names. So what?

  5. The best one can say about her is that she inspired many genuine Christian charitable initiatives all over the world.

But her acceptance of a Legion of Honour and grant from Haiti's Duvalier dictatorship-which she praised-is unforgiveable.

Likewise her waste of hundreds of millions in donations, while her missions have been described as 'homes for the dying' by doctors visiting several of these establishments in Calcutta.

    This stands out:
""Doctors observed a significant lack of hygiene, even unfit conditions, as well as a shortage of actual care, inadequate food, and no painkillers.

But they say the problem is not a lack of money, as the foundation created by Mother Teresa has raised hundred of millions of pounds.""

Don't expose your ignorance. It's one of the leading journals for scholars in the fields of religious studies and theological studies (see here http://sir.sagepub.com/).

There's no dispute over the facts.

Her support for 'Papa Doc' Duvalier's regime is on the record. Look it up.

So too is the fact that the majority of $100 million she received was misspent.

Durham has one of the most important Theology Departments in the world, and I'd have to check if the Library even took it. I'll let you know.

"Misspent" according to whom, and on what criteria? You also seem to think that $100 million is far more money than it really is.

I'm wondering which of these facts you dispute?

Or if you even knew anything about her?

  8. Lindsay makes this laughable comment, proving he never looks anything up before sputing off.

""here are things claiming to be the Institute of This of The Journal of That which claim that the Royal Family are giant lizards in disguise.""

The Journal of Studies in Religion/Sciences is one of the pre-eminent journals for scholars working in religious studies and theological studies.

As for the facts about her support for Papa Doc Duvalier.

It's on the record. Do your research.

    1. Ah, the screaming cultist's reaction to being questioned. Bang on cue.

"Read my cult leader's entirely made-up book, taken seriously by absolutely nobody else, or you have not done your research."

Lyndon LaRouche. The neoconservatives. The Posadists. David Icke. David Irving. This. All of a piece.

No-what I say is nothing to do with Christopher Hitchens book-it's a matter of public record and has been exposed by Catholic researchers too. See below.

Any half-decent journalist could have found it out, if she was ever exposed to the slightest scrutiny.

    1. Yes, they just canonise anyone.

In fact, by modern standards, and especially in view of her extremely high profile, it will have taken her quite a while from beatification to canonisation. This is no rushed job.

But if only they had read Christopher Hitchens's pot-stirring book, and the pseudo-academics and pseudo-journalists who have churned his claims round and round as if they had been serious.

Expect a lot a more of this over the next 10 months.
